To your second point: Strafing enemy fighters is difficult. If it did work that way, then there would have to be some weird mechanic that gives boosted DPS and Survivability to fighters in the field of enemy AA, and that just not there. You don't usually decimate two entire squads and not lose a plane. Those are rubbish.) That's what usually happens.
